CASSIDY JACKSON MURDER SUSPECT LEADS POLICE CHASE IN GEORGIA WITH FATAL END
Robert E. Smith Jr., a 35-year-old suspect from Cookeville, Tennessee, accused of murdering 23-year-old Cassidy Jackson in Nashville, died by suicide after a series of crimes and a police pursuit in Georgia.
Smith kidnapped a woman and her 10-year-old son in Atlanta, forcing the woman to drive him to Nashville. At a Buc-ee’s in Calhoun, Georgia, the woman alerted authorities, leading to a confrontation where Smith fired at officers, stole a truck, and fled.
During a subsequent chase on I-75, he shot at deputies, crashed the stolen truck, and was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Evidence links Smith to Jackson’s murder and other Nashville incidents.
He faced multiple charges, including aggravated assault and kidnapping, unrelated to Jackson.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is continuing its inquiry into Smith’s death.
