CC SCHOOL BOARD AWARDED PORTION OF GEAR UP GRANT
The Cumberland County School Board was recently awarded a portion of a $35 million GEAR UP Grant for the United States Department of Education to be distributed over the course of 7 years beginning this year and concluding in 2031.
Cumberland County’s yearly awards amount totals $271,000 with the first year’s award being $135,500.
GEAR UP stands for Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs and functions as a pre-college program funded by the United States DOE and overseen by the Tennessee Higher Education Commission. Tennessee’s project hopes to dramatically increase the number of Tennessee students with access to and success in higher education. GEAR UP is meant to provide students with clear pathways to enter college.
