CCHS ON LOCKDOWN AFTER GUN WAS FOUND

Just before 1 o’clock today, Cumberland County High School was placed on a hard lockdown after a gun was found.

According to the city police, a gun was found in a backpack of a student and the school officials immediately put the entire school on a hard lockdown. The student told authorities a friend must have put the gun in their backpack and it was accidental.

The is no threat to the public and the school and the lockdown has been lifted.

CROSSVILLE, TN – On April 13, 2023, at approximately 12:50 pm Cumberland County High School (Tennessee) administrators were notified of a student that was potentially in possession of a gun on campus. The C.C.H.S. campus was immediately placed on “hard lockdown”. The School Resource Officer made contact with the suspected student within five minutes of the initial report. The student was detained and the handgun, which was found to be unloaded, was secured by the SRO. The lockdown of the school has since been lifted.

The school system will continue to work with local law enforcement and EMA partners to provide safe schools in Cumberland County.
