CHARGES DISMISSED AGAINST HARRINGTON IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY

A charge of disorderly conduct and a probation violation was thrown out of Cumberland County court this week against a homeless veteran in Crossville. Court officials say 63-year-old Stephen Michael Harrington was arrested last month at the driver’s license center in Crossville.

The incident started with Harrington coming to the DMV to try to find out what happened to his Tennessee identification card after over a year wait. The only explanation Harrington got was it could have been lost in the mail. Harrington was in need of the card as one of the requirements to get into a veterans home in Florida. That is when Harrington allegedly referenced Timothy McVeigh to a DMV worker who felt threatened. Harrington later said he did not condone the actions of McVeigh and was simply frustrated.

In court Monday, Judge Larry Warner dismissed the disorderly conduct charge and in a separate court Judge Gary McKenzie dismissed the violation of probation against Harrington.
