CHRISTOPHER KENNEDY APPREHENDED AND SENTENCED IN THE MURDER OF BETTY CREWS

Christopher Kennedy was sentenced to life in prison August 22, 2022, before the Honorable Jeff Wicks after being apprehended on August 17, 2022, by the US Marshalls in Marshall County, Illinois. Kennedy was on the run since July 15, 2022, when he failed to appear for the last day of his and his wife’s, Evelyn Kennedy’s, trial for the felony-murder and aggravated elder abuse of Betty Crews. A Roane County Jury found Christopher and Evelyn Kennedy guilty. Evelyn Kennedy was sentenced to life in prison for felony-murder on July 15, 2022.
Kennedy was apprehended after law enforcement received a tip that Kennedy made his way to Illinois. The Roane County Sheriff’s Office working with law enforcement partners worked relentlessly to apprehend Kennedy after jumping bail, posted by a bonding company. The bonding company provided no assistance in the apprehension of Kennedy. Additionally, the bonding company will be responsible for the cost incurred by the Roane County Sheriff’s Office in retrieving Kennedy from Illinois.
Christopher and Evelyn Kennedy received a life sentence for the felony murder of Crews. A sentencing hearing will occur on November 18, 2022, in Roane County in order for the Court to determine the appropriate sentence on the charge of aggravated elder abuse.
