CITY COUNCIL VOTES TO ALLOW CAR CRUISE-IN TO RETURN TO MAIN STREET

In a 3-2 vote, the Crossville City Council passed a resolution to move the monthly Crossville Cruise-in car show back to Main Street this Spring.  The City had voted last year to not close down Main Street and allow the car show to set up behind the Courthouse around the Amphitheater due to the possibility of the City rebuilding the sidewalks in town to accommodate the State repaving Main Street.  That project has met with one delay after another for several years, mostly due to State regulation, and now doesn’t seem like it’s going to even begin until the fall of this year.  Since the sidewalk reconstruction is delayed the City decided the monthly Cruise-In could have Main Street until the project does begin perhaps later this fall at which time something else would need to be done to clear Main Street for the sidewalk renovation.  There were at least three Main Street businesses objecting to the monthly Cruise-In, which shuts down Main Street for four to five hours one Saturday a month.  The businesses argued they lose upwards of $1,000 and more in business sales on the Saturdays when the Cruise-In is held due to very limited parking in town for customers when the Cruise-In sets up and Main Street is closed.  The Council also approved Friday At The Crossroads to continue closing down Main Street for that event which takes place every two months on the first Friday beginning on April 1st.
