Last week, Cookeville Officials closed on the property chosen to be home to the city’s new police station. The 3.55 acre plot sits at the corner of Neal Street and Old Watkin Road and was purchased at a cost of $600,000 in December 2017. The property was purchased through a memorandum of understanding. On Sunday, Mayor Ricky Shelton said a needs assessment is being reviewed to fine tune the space requirements to determine if some space identified in the needs assessment can be eliminated or not. Once that analysis is finished, a work session will be scheduled so that officials can begin reviewing budget demands connected to the project.
