CITY OF HARRIMAN SEEKS TO HIRE DIRECTOR OF BEAUTIFICATION

The City of Harriman is currently seeking applicants for the full-time position of Director of Beautification. This role involves leading citywide efforts to enhance and maintain the visual appeal of public spaces by planning, coordinating, and executing beautification and grounds maintenance activities across municipal properties.

The director oversees landscaping tasks such as caring for flower pots, trees, shrubs, rose bushes, and planted areas; supervising mowing, trimming, edging, planting, seasonal rotations, litter pickup, and overall grounds upkeep; and monitoring plant health.

Additional responsibilities include designing, installing, maintaining, and removing seasonal indoor and outdoor decorations at city facilities and public areas, while ensuring safety during displays. The position requires supervising part-time staff and inmate work crews, assigning tasks, monitoring performance, and enforcing safe work practices. The director also collaborates with departments like Streets, Parks and Recreation, and Maintenance to support event setups, breakdowns, and venue upkeep—including Gates Hall Event Venue—and ensures public spaces and event areas remain clean and well-presented at all times.

Preferred qualifications include experience in landscaping, grounds maintenance, horticulture, or a related field, along with prior supervisory or crew leadership experience. Candidates should be able to safely operate relevant equipment, demonstrate strong organizational and time management skills, work independently or collaboratively, and show a clear dedication to high standards of cleanliness and presentation in public areas. The job demands physical capability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform outdoor labor involving standing, bending, lifting, and working in various weather conditions.

The work environment is primarily outdoors with significant physical activity, and the role is vital to the city’s mission of creating a clean, welcoming, and attractive environment for residents and visitors.
