CITY WILL NOT ALLOW VILLAGE INN RAID/EVICTION REPORT TO BE RELEASED TO PUBLIC
During the regular meeting of the Crossville City Council Tuesday night, one item on the agenda was the release of the special report on the Village Inn raid and evictions back in July 2022 that displaced all tenants overnight.
The very next day, then City Attorney Ridley advised the City there was a legal error in the eviction of the Village Inn tenants and advised the City to allow tenants to return to the Inn and the power restored.
City Manager Greg Wood tendered his resignation taking full credit for the debacle but rescinded that resignation in the days following. The City of Crossville hired a Chattanooga law firm to investigate the actions of the City Manager, Police, and other agencies involved in the raid and eviction of all tenants of the Village Inn. The cost of the investigation to the City was $10,000.
Several media requests have been made to see the finalized report of the Chattanooga law firm but have been refused in the past. During the City’s work session last week, it was decided to add the investigation release to the agenda of Tuesday’s meeting. City Attorney Randy York advised the Council Members tonight to invoke client-attorney privilege and not release the report for public inspection. Mayor Crawford agreed with York and pulled the item from the agenda.
