CLAY COUNTY MAN CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTED MURDER

An investigation by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, the 13th Judicial District Attorney General’s Office and the Tennessee Highway Patrol has resulted in the arrest of a Celina man on attempted murder and assault charges.

On December 30, 2019, at the request of 13th District Attorney General Bryant Dunaway, TBI agents began investigating an incident that occurred in Celina. Shortly before 9 p.m. Monday evening, deputies with the Clay County Sheriff’s Office responded to an incident at a residence along Poor House Ridge Road, where a man had been shot. The victim was transported to a hospital for treatment. During the course of the investigation, agents developed information that 44-year-old James Jeffery Carmack was the individual allegedly responsible for shooting the victim. Further investigation revealed that Carmack also fired shots at a second person, but did not strike that individual.

This morning, TBI agents obtained warrants charging Carmack with two counts each of attempted first-degree murder and aggravated assault. He was booked into the Clay County Jail on a $300,000 bond.
