CONSTRUCTION PROMPTS TRAFFIC SHIFT ON SR68 IN POLK COUNTY; STARTING TODAY
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – As part of the SR 68 bridge replacements project over SR 40 in Ducktown, Tennessee Department of Transportation contract crews will shift traffic to the newly constructed SR 68 North bridge for the remainder of the project beginning Friday, February 6, 2026.
During this final phase of construction:
· The SR 68 South bridge will close for replacement.
· All traffic will use the newly constructed SR 68 North bridge, which will temporarily carry two-way traffic while crews build the new SR 68 South bridge.
· The SR 68/SR 40 West interchange will close. All interchange traffic will be routed through the SR 68/SR 40 East interchange.
· A temporary crossover will create a three-way stop where the ramp meets SR 68, ensuring safe movement through the work zone.
This traffic pattern will be similar to the current setup, but with the bridge and interchange locations switched.
This work is weather-dependent. Drivers are advised to plan ahead, expect delays, and use caution while traveling through the work zone.
As always, motorists are reminded to use TDOT’s motorist information tools and Know Before You Go! by checking travel conditions before departure. Drivers should never tweet, text, or talk on the phone while driving. For the latest updates, visit the TDOT SmartWay Map or dial 511 for statewide travel information.
Tennessee’s Move Over Law requires drivers to move over for highway workers and emergency vehicles. Violation of this law can result in up to 30 days in jail and a fine of up to $500.
