CONTROVERSIAL IMMIGRATION BILL PASSES TN HOUSE AND SENATE
The Tennessee House and Senate passed a controversial and multi-layered immigration bill, sb6002/hb6001, today.
This bill will create a centralized immigration enforcement division within the Department of Safety, to be administered by a chief immigration enforcement officer.
According to the official website of the Tennessee General Assembly, this bill establishes a grant program to promote the enforcement of federal immigration laws, creates criminal penalties for officials who adopt sanctuary policies and subsequently requires their removal from Office upon conviction.
The bill will also create temporary driver’s licenses that feature visually distinct marks for non-citizens that function as a separate driver’s license. Non-citizens had so far been able to get standard licenses and IDs.
These temporary licenses will aid in determining voter eligibility for someone who presents a Tennessee driver’s license as identification.
