CONVICTED FELON ARRESTED FOR WEAPONS VIOLATION DURING TRAFFIC STOP

Cumberland County deputies conducting a traffic stop late last night ended up arresting the driver for theft and weapons charges. Deputies said 24-year-old Tyler Lee Ford of Crossville seemed extremely nervous when they stopped him on Clifty Road for a light-law violation.

After first denying having anything illegal in the vehicle, Tyler admitted there was a gun under the seat. Deputies found a Smith & Wesson .40-caliber semi-automatic pistol with thirteen live rounds in the magazine. The weapon was discovered to have been stolen in 2013.

Because Tyler knew the weapon was there, authorities determined he was in possession. A check of his criminal history revealed he was a convicted felon and therefore not supposed to be in possession or in the vicinity of firearms. Tyler was arrested for theft of property and unlawful possession of a weapon. Placed under $12,500 bond, he has a court date scheduled for April 8.
