A 22-year-old man from Cookeville, Derrick P. Borchardt II, died in a single-vehicle crash on I-40 in Davidson County, Tennessee, on Friday evening, March 28, 2025. The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. near the I-440 junction on the eastbound lanes.
Borchardt was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer, which was observed weaving across lanes before swerving, hitting a rock wall, and rolling over onto its passenger side. He was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
A 22-year-old passenger in the vehicle sustained minor injuries. Metro Nashville Police Department reported that speed and alcohol appear to have contributed to the crash, as open containers were found in the SUV, and the passenger admitted that both individuals had been drinking beforehand.
