We want to inform our community about two ongoing scam trends. Please stay vigilant and protect your information!
City of Cookeville Electric Department Scam: This is an ongoing telephone scam where individuals are posing as representatives from the City of Cookeville’s electric department claiming to offer refunds. Scammers are requesting bank information to process these refunds. Never share any personal or financial information over the phone.
IRS Scam: This is an ongoing scam involving fraudulent text messages claiming to be from the IRS. These messages may falsely claim you owe money or that personal information is required to process your tax return. Please be aware that the IRS does not initiate contact via text message. Never click on any links or provide personal information.
