COUNTY COMMISSIONER, STONE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TEACHER CHARGED WITH SEXUAL BATTERY

According to a press release from the District Attorney General’s Office, a Cumberland County Commissioner has been charged with sexual battery by an authority figure and one count of providing alcohol to a minor.  Michael Speich is the representative of the 6th District in Cumberland County.  Speich is also a math teacher at Stone Elementary School.

Michael E. Speich, who represents the 6th Civil District and teaches math at Stone Elementary School, was arrested at 2:35 p.m. Monday and released on bond after 4 p.m. following an indictment by the Cumberland Grand Jury earlier today. The release says the incident took place on Speich’s property and not on school property.

THE FOLLOWING IS THE PRESS RELEASE FROM THE DA’S OFFICE

CROSSVILLE – On June 6, 2019, Criminal Investigators with the District Attorney General’s Office, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department began to investigate an allegation that a teacher at Stone Elementary School had provided alcohol to a minor student. The TBI also assisted in the investigation. This was alleged to have happened at a location owned by the teacher and not on school property. As the investigation continued, evidence of the sexual abuse of the victim, committed by MICHAEL E. SPEICH, was discovered. SPEICH is employed as a teacher at Stone Elementary School and is also a current elected County Commissioner for Cumberland County. The alleged victim was a minor child at the time of the offense.

Today, Monday June 24, 2019, the Cumberland County Grand Jury returned an Indictment charging MICHAEL E. SPEICH with one (1) count of SEXUAL BATTERY BY AN AUTHORITY FIGURE and one (1) count of PROVIDING ALCOHOL TO A MINOR.
