CROSSVILLE CITIZEN SCAMMED OUT OF NEARLY $3,000
A citizen of Crossville went to the police station yesterday to report she was scammed out of nearly $3,000. The woman said she received a call from an “Officer Richard Dawson” who informed the victim her social security number was used in drug trafficking. Dawson transferred the female to a “David Moore with the U.S. Treasury” who said she needed to purchase 6 gift cards from a convenience store and tell him the pin numbers to clear the matter up. Once the numbers were obtained, the caller hung up. Authorities say this is a regular scam and warns residents not fall for these types of calls.
