CROSSVILLE CITY COUNCIL CONSIDERS MEASURES TO COMBAT SPEEDING ON DEERFIELD
The Crossville City Council met at a work session yesterday and one of the discussed agenda items concerns finding a means to combat speeding on Deerfield Rd.
Keith Johannes (pictured), Crossville citizen and retiree from the U.S. Navy, stood up to propose methods of speed reduction to the council. He claims that speed limit signs posted on Deerfield Rd list the speed limit at 30 MPH, but many drivers are ignoring the signs and driving at speeds as high as 70 MPH.
He proposed to drop the speed limit to 20 or 25 MPH and add a three-way stop at Capitol Dr. and another at Whitetail Run.
Another proposal was based on a printed-out article passed around the council referencing the City of Brentwood’s Speed Hump policy, with further suggestions that speed humps be added to further discourage high speeds.
And yet one more suggested option was the building of a sidewalk along Deerfield to provide safe places for pedestrians and dog-walkers.
Options will be discussed until next week’s city council meeting on Tuesday.
