CROSSVILLE CITY COUNCIL: NO SURVEY OR REFERENDUM ON NEW REC CENTER
The largest financial venture the City of Crossville has ever undertaken, almost doubling the city debt, is moving forward without regard to what some city taxpayers say.
The Crossville City council met last night and voted not to conduct a survey or referendum on the massive cost of the proposed indoor recreation center. The council voted down the motion of conducting a citizens survey on the indoor rec center, with Council members, Rob Harrison and Mike Turner voting for a survey while Mayor RJ Crawford and council members Scott Shanks, and Art Gernt voting against the motion.
Afterwards, The council voted unanimously to approved a memorandum of understanding. with a YMCA of Cookeville as well as motions agreeing to sell the rec center property to the newly formed Sports Authority.
The City Council agreed to form a Sport Authority in early February. The members of the Sports Authority include Brock Hill, Ethan Hadley, Louis Morrison Jr., Theresa Barnes, Sheryl Webb, Rob Patton and Mark Moore.
The Cookeville YMCA is considering a partnership with the city of Crossville to fund, build, and operate a recreation center.
