CROSSVILLE CITY COUNCIL SET TO VOTE ON PURPLE HEART CITY DESIGNATION NEXT WEEK

The Crossville City Council held a work session this evening, and a portion of that session concerned a request by the Daughters of the American Revolution for the city to adopt the honorary title of a Purple Heart City.

This designation recognizes and honors the bravery, sacrifices, and service of Purple Heart recipients (U.S. military personnel wounded or killed in combat) and their families. It serves as a symbolic commitment by the community to show gratitude for their contributions and to promote patriotism and remembrance.

Importantly, as noted in the discussion, becoming a Purple Heart City typically requires no financial obligation or ongoing costs from the municipality. The primary action is for the city council (or mayor) to pass a formal resolution or proclamation expressing this commitment. Many cities also recognize National Purple Heart Day (August 7) in some way, though the core requirement is the official statement of support.

The staff recommended approval of the resolution during the work session. Crossville does not yet appear on lists of designated Purple Heart Cities in Tennessee (which include places like Clarksville, Cookeville, and others), so this would be a new designation if approved.

The council will make the final decision at their upcoming meeting next week on Tuesday, where they can vote to adopt the resolution.
