CROSSVILLE HOLDS ANNUAL FLY-IN AT AIRPORT

Yesterday was a beautiful day for the annual City of Crossville Fly-In at the airport.

Officials report a steady to heavy turnout for the six-hour event running from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Attendees got a chance to get up close to vintage aircraft such as a Howard DGA, Fairchild F24 Argus, Hatz biplane, Stinson SR-5, T-28 Trojan, and a Fairchild F-24.

The showcase aircraft for the fly-in was the DC-3 Flagship Detroit (seen in the main picture for this story). American Airlines accepted delivery of the Flagship Detroit on March 2, 1937, as the twenty-first DC-3 in American’s fleet of 84 DC-3s. The cost of a DC-3 in 1937 was $79,500. The Flagship Detroit is the oldest DC-3 in the world that is still flying. It has a range of 1,500 miles and can reach a maximum speed of 230 miles per hour.

Here are pictures of some of the planes at the fly-in:
