CROSSVILLE INDOOR RECREATION CENTER ON CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION AGENDA TODAY

The Crossville City Council has scheduled a work session today at 2 pm. Only one item is on the agenda, it’s the proposed Crossville indoor recreational center. The City has already attempted to pass a budget resolution to build the rec center but was met with tremendous community pushback.

The biggest concern for most citizens is the price tag. The Crossville City Council has estimated cost for construction of the rec center to be around 55 million dollars. Dozens of citizens showed up at the meeting scheduled to pass the budget for the rec center to voice their dismay with the cost of the project. In the end, Mayor Crawford tabled the rec center proposal saying they would wait for more information on cost, construction and feasibility of an indoor rec center.  Some estimates have indicated that the recreation center project could result in as much as a one dollar per thousand dollars of appraised value property tax increase would be required for City of Crossville property owners.

Todays ‘special called’ work session will have a representative from Upland Design Group present to discuss further options for the rec center. The City has investigated other city’s such as Morristown, who have been able to build similar indoor rec centers at about half the cost of the proposed Crossville facility.
