A Crossville man is facing an identity theft investigation after deputies say he used an ex-girlfriend’s personal information to open multiple unauthorized credit cards.

According to an incident report from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, a local deputy responded to a fraud complaint filed on September 6, 2026.

The victim reported that her 26-year-old ex-boyfriend obtained a copy of her Social Security card and used her identifying information to open three separate credit cards without authorization. Investigators noted that the suspect’s personal email address was listed directly on the fraudulent credit card applications.

In response to the security breach, the victim contacted the Social Security Administration to request a new Social Security number and requested an official police report for documentation.

The incident remains under active investigation.
