CROSSVILLE MAN ARRESTED FOR DRUG PARAPHERNALIA AND DRIVING WITHOUT A LICENSE AFTER TRAFFIC STOP
A local man was taken into custody late Saturday night after a routine traffic stop led to the discovery of drug paraphernalia.
According to an incident report from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Aidyn Smith initiated a traffic stop on a 2005 silver Dodge at approximately 11:00 PM on June 20, 2026. The vehicle was pulled over on Highway 127 North near Legion Road after the deputy observed it crossing the center line twice.
The driver was identified as Noah Garrett Hummel, 21, of Crossville. Upon contact, Hummel informed the deputy that he did not possess a valid driver’s license, which was subsequently confirmed by dispatch.
Hummel consented to a search of both himself and his vehicle. During the search, Deputy Smith discovered a short pink straw—commonly referred to as a “tutor straw”—containing a white, powdery substance in the driver’s seat.
According to the narrative, after being read his Miranda rights, Hummel admitted to authorities that the straw was used for “cocaine.”
A small clear bag containing a green pill was also recovered. Hummel claimed the pill was kratom, and a subsequent field test yielded negative results for illicit narcotics. Both the straw and the pill were seized by authorities to be destroyed.
Hummel was arrested on the scene and transported to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office for booking. He faces the following charges:
-
Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia — Bond set at $1,500.00
-
Driving Without a License — Bond set at $1,500.00
Hummel is scheduled to appear in General Sessions Court on August 3, 2026, at 8:30 AM.
Following the arrest, Hummel’s vehicle was released to a licensed acquaintance at the scene. The incident report was officially reviewed and approved by Sergeant Elijah Tollett.
