CROSSVILLE MAN BECOMES VICTIM OF IDENTITY THEFT

On August 27, 2025, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office received an identity theft report from a 49-year-old resident of Hyder Loop in Crossville. Deputy Joshua Alderman spoke with the victim over the phone, who reported receiving an email from a representative at the official State of Tennessee website claiming they had filed for unemployment and requesting additional information.

The victim, who had not applied for unemployment, stated that their wallet was stolen approximately three years prior, leading to ongoing issues with their Social Security Number (SSN). They had already reported the issue to the Social Security office, which advised filing a report with the sheriff’s office due to their residence in Cumberland County.

Alderman provided information on filing with the FBI’s database. The incident, classified as identity theft, involved the theft of the victim’s SSN, with no suspect identified.
