CROSSVILLE MAN FACES MULTIPLE FELONY AND DRUG CHARGES IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY COURT

A local resident is scheduled to appear in the Cumberland County General Sessions Court on July 2, 2026, to face a litany of criminal charges stemming from a string of incidents in late 2024.

Nathan Michael Rector, of Crossville, faces multiple charges including methamphetamine possession with intent to distribute, unlawful possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, theft, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Rector is being represented by attorney Howard Upchurch.

According to official court dockets and affidavits of complaint, the charges against Rector stem from three separate investigations conducted by the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office:

July 2024: Probation Search Uncovers Meth and Weapon

On July 28, 2024, Deputy Jacob Moore and Reserve Deputy Anthony Thompson conducted a casual encounter at Rector’s Happy Top Road residence following citizen complaints of suspected narcotics activity. Knowing Rector was a convicted felon on state probation, deputies entered the basement after a co-resident admitted to smoking methamphetamine and indicated pipes were located downstairs.

During the initial sweep, authorities discovered digital scales, drug pipes, a ledger, a counter-surveillance system, and a rifle. A subsequent search warrant executed on a locked safe inside the home yielded approximately 5.0 grams of methamphetamine and a large quantity of plastic baggies. Rector was subsequently charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to manufacture, deliver, or sell, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

September 2024: Stolen Trail Cameras

On September 16, 2024, Corporal Ryan Ashburn responded to a theft report on Bear Den Trail, where a property owner reported three trail cameras stolen. The victim provided photographs of the suspect, who was positively identified as Rector.

Using live GPS coordinates and live photographs transmitted from the stolen equipment, law enforcement recovered one camera at a Mason Lane residence belonging to Rector’s brother, and a second camera attached to a tree on Jewitt Road near Rector’s home. Rector was charged with theft up to $1,000.

October 2024: Wrecked Truck and Evidence in the Woods

On October 5, 2024, Cumberland County units responded to Happy Top Road after receiving reports that Rector’s truck had been found wrecked in a wooded area.

While searching the woods near the crash site, Deputy Jordan Winningham recovered several small baggies, a sunglass case containing a meth pipe, a pink Stihl hat that Rector later claimed, and a cell phone. To confirm ownership of the phone, deputies called a number Rector had previously used to contact a sheriff’s sergeant; the phone recovered from the woods immediately rang. This incident resulted in an additional charge of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Rector’s cases are consolidated on the July 2nd criminal court docket before the Cumberland County General Sessions Court.
