A 23-year-old man is dead following a motorcycle crash Monday evening in Knoxville, according to the Knoxville Police Department. Officers responded to the intersection of Merchant Drive and Central Avenue Pike around 6:40 p.m. after receiving reports of a crash. The motorcyclist, who had a Crossville address, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Preliminary findings indicate the man was traveling west on Merchant Drive when his motorcycle suddenly veered into oncoming traffic, where it collided head-on with a Hyundai SUV. Police say the rider was thrown from the motorcycle and then struck by an eastbound Chevrolet Suburban.
Two children inside the Hyundai SUV suffered minor injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
