CROSSVILLE MAN OUT $2,000 IN “COMPUTER REBATE” SCAM

A Crossville man fell victim to a phone scam. The caller stated a cash rebate of $3,000 would be given to the victim in his late 70’s for the purchase of a home computer 4 to 5 years ago. The scammer then gained access to the victim’s computer and placed an application on his screen for him to fill out. The victim was then instructed to go buy four Walmart gift cards for $500 each to cover processing. The victim then gave the scammer the numbers off the gift cards. Police remind citizens to not fall for scams of this nature.
