CROSSVILLE MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO EVADING ARREST AND RECKLESS ENDANGERMENT

The Crossville Chronicle reports that Steven Wayne Sherrill, a 54-year-old man, pleaded guilty in Cumberland County Criminal Court to evading arrest, a charge stemming from a May 29 incident in Crossville, Tennessee. As a Range II offender, Sherrill received a five-year sentence with credit for 97 days already served, and his fine and court costs were waived.
The incident began when Crossville Police, alerted to be on the lookout for Sherrill’s vehicle, conducted a traffic stop at the Car Spa on North Main Street. Sherrill refused to cooperate, fled the scene, and led police on a high-speed chase, driving erratically at speeds up to 80 mph. After city police ended their pursuit, sheriff’s deputies continued the chase on I-40, where speeds reached 100 mph.
The pursuit ended when a tire-disabling device caused Sherrill’s vehicle to crash near mile marker 322. He was checked by EMS at the scene and has been jailed since. Items seized during his arrest were forfeited, and related charges, including reckless endangerment, driving on a revoked license, and seat belt and registration violations, were dropped as part of the plea.
