CROSSVILLE MAN SCAMMED OUT OF OVER $6,000

On Monday, a man came to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office to report that he was contacted by someone claiming to be Detective Jackson with the Sheriff’s Office. “Det. Jackson” informed the man that he had warrants on him for a missed meeting on the 9th. The man had been in the Sherrif’s Office on the 8th and was confused because no one had told him about a meeting. The caller claiming to be “Det. Jackson” stated there was a local warrant out for failure to comply and a state warrant also. The man was then instructed to go to the Sunoco Gas Station off West Ave and send $3,000 in $100  bills to a numbered account on the coin flip kiosk. The man did as instructed. He was then transferred to another man on the phone by the name of Anthony Ken who instructed him to send him another $3,250. The man complied.

Later, the man was talking with his stepson who told him it sounded like fraud and that he should go to the Sheriff’s Office.

The man is out $6,150 as the machine kept rejecting one of the hundred dollar bills. The man was also instructed to hold his driver’s license up to the kiosk so it could take a picture. However, it was having issues, so his wife used her driver’s license and sent it to them.
