CROSSVILLE MAN WRECKS CAR, WANDERS OFF, LEAVING DOG INSIDE

Friday night, Cumberland County deputies responding to a report of a motor-vehicle accident on Tabor Loop found a substantially damaged vehicle partially in the roadway and nobody around, except for a dog inside the vehicle. They also noted the presence of an empty liquor bottle in the car.

As deputies were clearing the scene, dispatch advised that a resident had called to say a possibly drunk man showed up saying he’d been in an accident.

When deputies arrived at the home, the resident said the man was inside.

According to the arrest report, 45-year-old Charles Phillip Dickenson of Crossville had “a strong odor of alcohol” about him. Dickenson admitted he’d been driving, wrecking and abandoning the car, which belongs to his girlfriend.

When asked about the empty liquor bottle, Dickenson claimed he didn’t drink all of it.

A dispatch check indicated Dickenson’s license was revoked for a prior DUI conviction.

While being transported to the justice center, Dickenson alternated between sudden weepy docility and verbal abusiveness.

Dickenson was charged with DUI, driving on a revoked license and leaving the scene of an accident. He was placed under $5,000 bond and is due to appear in court June 10.
