A routine traffic crash investigation on August 5, 2026, quickly turned into a theft and burglary case after a driver reported her wallet stolen from her unlocked vehicle.

According to Crossville Police Department reports, officers responded to a two-vehicle crash near the Quality Inn on Highway 127N. While investigating the collision, the driver of a Subaru informed police that her wallet—containing her driver’s license, credit and debit cards, and cash—had been stolen while she was away from her car.

The owner of the nearby Peacock gas station arrived at the scene and alerted officers that the suspect was spotted walking near a local Circle K, providing a distinct description: a slim-built woman with very short hair, wearing a lime green shirt, dark shorts, and an orange head scarf.

Officers reviewed surveillance footage from the gas station, which revealed the suspect—later identified as Kim Norris—entering the victim’s unlocked front passenger door, rummaging through a purse, and fleeing with the wallet toward Highway 127N.

Police canvassed the area and located Norris sitting behind an unoccupied residence on Highway 127N. After being read her Miranda rights, Norris confessed to taking the wallet because she was hungry and needed money, though she later claimed she spent cash on lottery scratch-off tickets rather than food. Two lottery tickets were found lying on the ground beside her.

Norris told officers she left the stolen wallet on a sink inside the Peacock gas station. Officers successfully retrieved the wallet and returned the remaining cash to the victim.

Norris was taken into custody without incident, transported to the Justice Center Intake, and served with warrants for Burglary and Theft of Property. She appeared in Cumberland County General Sessions Court today.
