CROSSVILLE POLICE MOURNING THE LOSS OF K9 MATTIS

CROSSVILLE, TN –It is with saddened hearts that the City of Crossville Police Department announces the final End of Watch Call for K9 Mattis, a six-year law enforcement veteran.

On Thursday, April 13, 2023, K9 Mattis was taken to U.T. Veterinary Medical Center after suffering from an ongoing illness. K9 Mattis, unable to recover from his illness, was put to rest shortly after arriving, to end his pain and suffering. K9 Mattis was 7 years of age.

K9 Mattis, a Shepherd-Malinois mix, began his training with handler K9 Lt. Jonathan O’Neal in July 2017. He began his patrol service to the City of Crossville in September of the same year. Serving as a K9 patrol with the Crossville Police Department, K9 Mattis has had a distinguished service history, always exceeding expectations and performing his important mission with the utmost reliability and drive.

A new K9 is expected to begin training with our K9 division before the end of the year. A sincere thank you to Upper Cumberland Veterinary Clinic, UT Veterinary Medical Center, and Yeargan Pet Cremation Services for their care during this difficult time.

Thank you, K9 Mattis, your watch is over.

Good Boy!
