CROSSVILLE POLICE NAB MIDNIGHT-SNACKING BURGLAR AT OLD MAIL ROAD HOME

Late Sunday night, Crossville police were dispatched to an Old Mail Road residence for a report of an active burglar who was in the kitchen eating the resident’s food. Police found 29-year-old Bruce Andrew Barison of Crossville making himself quite at home. The owner said he awakened to noises in his kitchen and went to check it out. He found an unfamiliar man having a snack.

The homeowner said he did not know the intruder, and he certainly did not have permission to be in his home – let alone cooking a bag of pizza rolls in the microwave, and devouring half a loaf of bread and a package of meat from the fridge.

The homeowner said he asked the man who he was and what he was doing in his home, but all he said was “Bruce.”

In addition to the refrigerator, Barison also went through the homeowner’s girlfriend’s purse, which was found open and dumped out on the countertop.

Police also discovered Barison had wandered through the house, shedding clothing. His coat, boots and a small bag of clothes were found in the living room and a bedroom, where he’d stripped off the items before cooking the food.

As he was being walked to the patrol car, Barison is said to have told officers he wanted to be put into a mental hospital.

Instead, Barison was taken to the Cumberland County jail, where he was charged with aggravated burglary.
