CROSSVILLE POLICE RELEASE REPORT ON WHAT PROMPTED MONDAY’S SEARCH OF AREA LAKES AND PONDS

On 06-24-2024 at approximately 0602 hours, Cumberland County Dispatch received a 911 call from an
unknown female caller reporting that she looked out of her window and saw a child face down in the water.
Dispatch advised that the caller seemed to be intoxicated and did not want to give any information
other than she saw it from a window. Dispatch noted that the caller did not provide an address to the location
that she was at and did not want to ask a neighbor for an address. Dispatch said that the phone was phased in
multiple locations around the City of Crossville but never locked into a location.
We had just been dispatched to a missing juvenile call on Magnolia Street. One of the phases that
dispatch had from the unknown caller was on Magnolia Street. We immediately began checking the
known bodies of water around the Magnolia Street area and did not locate a possible drowning victim. Due
to the nature of the call, I had Dispatch begin compiling a list of bodies of water inside the City of Crossville
so that we could begin a search for a victim in need of help. I contacted CFD as well and requested their
assistance in the search.
Chief South (CFD) and I set up a command post at Crossville Fire Station One and began directing search
efforts. CCEMA also assisted us in the command post and search efforts. The agencies involved were able to
identify approximately 70 bodies of water inside of the city to check. CPO, CFD, and CCEMA utilized
personnel, drones, and boats to search these identified ponds, lakes, and creeks/rivers. No drowning
victims were located during the search. This search was performed out of an abundance of caution. The
search was concluded after checking all bodies of water that we were able to identify from the map.
At the time of this report, no other calls have been received in reference to a possible drowning.
