The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the reported theft of an ATV from a Bowman Loop residence, though officials have not entered the vehicle into the national database due to missing documentation.

According to an incident report filed by Deputy Aidyn Smith, a 31-year-old Monterey man reported his green 1997 Yamaha Big Bear four-wheeler missing on August 5. He told authorities the vehicle was last seen at Bowman Loop between 7:00 PM and 9:40 PM that evening. He described it as featuring an aftermarket Suzuki exhaust and noted it was operated without a key switch because it had been hotwired.

When questioned by deputies, the owner initially stated he possessed a notarized bill of sale containing the vehicle’s Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). However, upon meeting with Deputy Jacob Moore at the Justice Center later that night, the document provided was found not to be notarized and contained no information other than the owner’s name. Furthermore, the owner could not provide a title or the ATV’s VIN.

Due to the conflicting statements, absence of a VIN, and lack of valid proof of ownership, the $500 four-wheeler has not been entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) as stolen. The investigation remains open.
