Five members of the Cumberland County Board of Education received awards from the Tennessee School Boards Association on Tuesday.

The meeting in Smith County Middle School in Carthage would see the 4th district’s Anita Hale, the 3rd district’s Sheri Nichols, the 6th district’s Chris King, and the recently retired Robert Safdie earn level 1 Boardsmanship awards, with the 9th district’s Shannon Stout receiving a level 3  and 4 award.

The purpose of the awards is to encourage more and higher quality participation and are earned by completing credits in the training, experiences, and workshops categories.
The TSBA will award Level 5 awards, their highest, at an annual convention in November.
This same convention will also see one student receive the Student Recognition Award which includes a $2,000 scholarship.
This year’s Upper Cumberland District winner is Addison Bray of Putnam County
