CUMBERLAND COUNTY COMMISSION JULY 15TH MEETING NOTES FROM ALLEN FOSTER

The July 2024 meeting of the Cumberland County Commission was held tonight with all in attendance except Commissioners Nancy Hyder and Jerry Cooper.  With Commissioner Walker’s resignation, the commission now has 17 members for the purpose of a quorum, with nine being required to pass a resolution.  This will remain in place until Wiley Potter is sworn in after the upcoming August elections as Mr. Potter was the only individual to qualify to run for the open seat.

Cumberland County’s own Carey Garrison has continued with her success in the shooting sports.  She recently won the Gold at the JR World Cup.  Congratulations Carey, well done!

Former Cumberland County Executive Jeannette Warner has passed away.  She was elected to the position of County Executive in 1982 and 1986.  She was the first to be sworn in as County Executive after the legislature changed the job from County Judge.  She was also the first female elected County Executive/Mayor.  My condolences go out to the family.

With the close of the budget year, most resolutions were taken care of in June.  There was only one resolution on the agenda for July.

The following resolutions were considered by the Cumberland County Commission.  The sponsor of the resolution is in parenthesis.

The Cumberland County Codes Department issued 33 building permits, 10 general mechanical permits, 20 general plumbing permits, one plan review, and one unheated basement permit in June 2024.  A total of $46,108 in fees were collected.

There will be no detailed financial report this month as the Finance Department is still working on the end-of-year processes.
