CUMBERLAND COUNTY COMMISSION MEETING HIGHLIGHTS (OCTOBER 2025)

At the October 20, 2025, Cumberland County Commission meeting, all members were present except Commissioner Jack Davis.
The commission addressed several resolutions and budget amendments.
Resolution 10-2025-1 appointed Joe Sherrill to replace Terry Lowe on the Cumberland County Regional Planning Commission and Sheryl Webb for a term until August 31, 2029, passing unanimously.
Resolution 10-2025-2 reappointed Dr. James Wojcik as the EMS Medical Director with a 17-0 vote.
Resolution 10-2025-3, requesting half of the real estate transfer tax be returned to the county, was reintroduced after failing at the state level and passed unanimously.
Resolution 10-2025-4 authorized the county mayor to negotiate EMS and fire service contracts with Flatrock Motorsports, also passing 17-0.
Resolution 10-2025-10 corrected a prior error in language for a $12.50 court fee for state misdemeanors and felonies, passing with the required two-thirds vote.
Routine budget amendments (Resolutions 10-2025-5 through 10-2025-19) were approved for various county departments, including the sheriff, county buildings, parks, library, fire department, and school programs.
Financially, the Codes Department issued 34 residential and one commercial building permit, collecting $47,389 in fees. EMS collections were $235,027, below the $433,333 monthly estimate due to a corrected billing error, with a year-to-date shortfall of $212,044. Sales tax collections for October were $1,480,348, exceeding estimates by $29,985, and property tax collections reached 12.27% compared to 7.65% last year. Hotel/motel tax collections were $236,948, and prisoner board payments totaled $180,851 year-to-date, surpassing last year’s figures.
