CUMBERLAND COUNTY COMMISSION TO VOTE ON TWO-YEAR DATA CENTER MORATORIUM AT JUNE MEETING
The Cumberland County Commission will hold its monthly meeting on Monday, June 15, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. The session will open with standard administrative procedures, including a call to order by the Chairperson or Sheriff, an invocation, the Pledge of Allegiance, and a roll call by County Clerk Jule Bryson. Following the approval of the current agenda and the minutes from the May 18, 2026 meeting, the floor will be opened for special recognitions, public comments, and any unfinished business.
The bulk of the meeting will focus on new business, starting with appointments to the Judicial Commission and the Cumberland County Library Board. Commissioners will also vote on expanding the county road list by extending Catoosa Boulevard, Forest Hills Drive, and Leyden Drive, alongside adding six new roads, including Carnoustie Drive and Spring Lake Drive. Additionally, a wide array of budget amendments will be reviewed across various county departments, including Debt Service, Solid Waste, Highway, the Railroad Authority, and General Funds covering EMS rural health programs and departmental overruns. A significant portion of these financial updates centers on the school system, with amendments earmarked for career and technical education, summer field trips, special education, preschool grants, health services, and Central Cafeteria equipment.
The meeting will conclude with legislative policy updates and official reports. Notable resolutions include modifying Highway Department funding, clarifying purchasing policies for subscriptions and maintenance agreements, and adopting the County Powers Act under state code. Notably, the commission will consider a high-profile resolution to impose a temporary, two-year moratorium on the development of data centers to study their impact on public welfare. Finally, the commission will review reports from county officials, the attorney, and various committees, oversee notary elections and appointments, and take final announcements before adjournment.
