CUMBERLAND COUNTY DEPUTY PUTS DOWN AN INJURED DEER

Yesterday at approximately 9:09 a.m., Cumberland County Animal Control received a call for service for an injured deer in the Sheffield Drive area. Deputy Daniel Grove attempted to make contact with the caller 3 times, but each attempt went straight to voicemail.
Grove called dispatch and got the area where the deer was last seen, and found the injured deer near Hertford in a wooded lot. The deputy examined the deer and found that both front legs were broken, unable to stand or walk.
Seeing the deer was in pain and suffering, Grove determined it would be best to put the deer down, and so retrieved his .22 bolt action rifle and loaded 1 .22lr hollow point bullet into the chamber. Grove fired 1 shot into the deer’s head and dispatched it effectively, then cleared the area and called TWRA to notify them he had found and dispatched the injured deer.
