Cumberland County leaders and residents gathered at the Cumberland County Fire Department at 7:30 AM today to observe the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

County Mayor Allen Foster led the morning remembrance ceremony, which centered around the community’s permanent 9/11 memorial. The monument features an authentic steel beam salvaged from the wreckage of the World Trade Center, inscribed with the traditional firefighters’ Maltese Cross.

During the service, Foster read the plaque standing before the steel artifact, emphasizing its concluding vow: “WE WILL NEVER FORGET.” Addressing the assembled crowd, Foster noted that a quarter-century later, that promise continues to hold deep significance for the community.

Local officials expressed gratitude to all community members who turned out for the early morning commemoration to pay their respects and honor the lives lost.
