CUMBERLAND COUNTY JURY CONVICTS WOMAN OF SECOND-DEGREE MURDER IN FENTANYL OVERDOSE DEATH
According to online court records, Jerrica Renee Marie Hayes, 37 (now listed as 39 in records), of Willow Street, was convicted Wednesday, May 6, 2026, by a Cumberland County jury of second-degree murder and delivery of fentanyl in connection with the fatal drug overdose of Samuel “Jordy” Mashburn, 35, of Crossville.
Mashburn was found dead outside Hayes’ home on September 21, 2022. The jury of seven men and five women returned the verdict after deliberating for only about 25 minutes and also assessed a total of $100,000 in fines.
Judge Shawn Fry immediately revoked Hayes’ bond and scheduled sentencing for July 21. She faces a prison sentence of 15 to 60 years. Court records confirm the charges as second-degree murder and a Schedule II drug offense involving alfentanil (under ½ gram), with the case progressing through multiple rescheduled hearings and deadlines leading up to the trial.
Joseph T. Wyatt represented Hayes.
