A Cumberland County man charged with first-degree murder is scheduled to appear in criminal court next week.

Thirty-year-old Devin Christopher Schillinger stands accused of the death of 36-year-old Michael Paul Kerley stemming from an incident in July 2025. It took place at Schillinger’s home in the 200 block of George Anna Drive in Westel, just off Highway 70 East.

According to the TBI, Kerley was walking across the driveway and was not threatening, assaulting, or speaking to anyone when Schillinger shot him in the head. Kerley received medical attention and was later pronounced deceased at the scene.

The court appearance for Schillinger this upcoming Tuesday (March 24, 2026) is for the judge to hear an update on the case from the prosecutor and defense attorney and possibly set a trial date.
