A Cumberland County man entered a plea of guilty today (Wednesday, January 24, 2024) in criminal court to a child sex crime.

Court officials say 62-year-old Michael Joe Phillips was arrested in 2022. A grand jury indicted him for aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor and sexual exploitation of a minor.

The indictment indicates Phillips possessed videos and photo images of minor or minors in actual or staged sexual activity.

In court today, Phillips pled guilty to sexual exploitation of a minor. Officials say the second charge of aggravated sexual exploitation was dismissed.

A sentencing hearing will take place on April 22, 2024 for Phillips.
