CUMBERLAND COUNTY MAN SCAMMED OUT OF NEARLY $2,000

A Cumberland County man found himself the victim of a scam on Tuesday.

The 60-year-old male told a deputy he was trying to pay his Spectrum bill by calling the phone number he thought was to the company.

A subject answered and told him there was a deal going on, which involved the store Target.

The scammer informed the victim to purchase gift cards and relay the numbers from the back of the cards to get the promotional deal.

The victim realized this was suspicious after he lost $1,920 in the scam.

The victim called the man back and confronted him about the situation being a scam.

He replied yes it is.

When informed the police would be notified, the scammer said “good I am in Texas” and hung up.
