CUMBERLAND COUNTY OFFICERS RESPOND TO MAN STRUCK BY CAR AND BAD LUCK

Cumberland County, TN- On October 31, officers responded to Cumberland Lakes Drive in reference to an incident regarding a male that had been struck by a vehicle.

James Choate was traveling east on Cumberland Lakes Drive when a man allegedly jumped out in front of him waving his arms above his head in an attempt to flag him down. Mr. Choate stated he struck the man due to limited visibility as he was wearing dark clothing and the weather was foggy and rainy. Mr. Choate realized what had happened and offered to call 911. Mr. Elridge did not want medical attention and stated he just wanted to go home and asked if he could get a ride to Mayland. He had been traveling on a motorcycle and gotten a flat tire and was just trying to get home. Mr. Choate agreed and Elridge got in the rear passenger seat of his van and they headed to Mayland.

However, when Mr. Choate turned around and began traveling he lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a curve and the vehicle went off the right side of the roadway and eventually came to a stop when it struck a slight embankment.

Mr. Eldridge was transported by EMS to Cumberland Medical Center. His injuries were unknown. The vehicle was removed by a towing company and Mr. Choate was able to drive the vehicle home.
