CUMBERLAND COUNTY OKAYS $75K OPIOID FUNDS FOR AEDs AND $2.4M EDUCATION GRANTS
The Crossville Chronicle reports that Cumberland County approved two budget amendments this month, totaling $75,000 from opioid settlement funds, to enhance emergency medical readiness.
The first, for $45,000, equips sheriff’s deputies serving as emergency medical responders with Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs), Life Pack hard shell cases, and medical bags containing Narcan.
The second, for $30,000, places similar AEDs and medical response bags in key county buildings, including the Courthouse, Milo Lemert Building, County Clerk’s office, Justice Center, Sheriff’s Office/Jail, Community Complex, Election Commission office, Archives and Family Heritage Center, and Art Circle Public Library. Both amendments were recommended by the Opioid Task Force and budget committees and unanimously approved, with approximately $200,000 remaining in settlement funds.
Additionally, the county approved various other budget amendments, including $80,000 for a solar infrastructure grant at Obed River Park, multiple education-related grants totaling over $2.4 million for school supplies, security, literacy, and Perkins programs, a $5,393 technology grant for the Art Circle Public Library, a $20 donation to the fire department, and $169,400 in federal cafeteria reimbursements.
