CUMBERLAND COUNTY RESCUE SQUAD CALLED TO MILLSTONE MTN FRIDAY

Cumberland County  Rescue Squad was notified Friday afternoon around 1:15 pm that a driver had gotten lost deep in the Lonestar Wildlife Management Area while trying to navigate Millstone Mountain Road.

The Rescue Squad had the coordinates of the individual and responded to the Millstone Mountain Rd area to retrieve and safely escort the individual out of the woods.

Rescue was able to drive in with their vehicles and locate the individual. The lost individual was unharmed and drove their vehicle back out to the main road.

Drivers who attempt to navigate Millstone Mountain Road should be advised that it is a dead-end road.  Additionally, “Big Rock”, a popular destination above LHoist limestone mine in Crab Orchard is no longer accessible via the road and because of logging and quarrying done in the area in years past,  several former trails were modified to allow large trucks to pass thru the area.  These side roads are often unmarked and can lead to dead ends which cause people unfamiliar with the area to become very confused.

It is strongly recommended that anyone planning to visit the area have a working GPS.
