CUMBERLAND COUNTY SCHOOL SYSTEM RELEASES INFORMATION DURING “RED PHASE” OF COVID-19 PANDEMIC

Because of the current number of active COVID-19 cases being above 607 in Cumberland County, the school system will move into their Red Zone phase effective tomorrow, January 6, 2020.

Students in grades PreK-2 will attend classes in person on a regular schedule. Students in grades 3-12 will begin remote learning tomorrow (Wednesday, January 6, 2021) through Friday, January 8, 2021 with exceptions for grades 9-12 (see below).

PRE-K- 2 STUDENTS

Students will continue to attend in person for the remainder of the week. The board of education approved the reopening plan back in July which stated that should the county-wide number of active cases go above 607, Pre-K through 2nd grade would attend in person learning and grades 3-12 would go remote. The state approved the continuous learning plan in Cumberland County which also contains this information. Because grades 3-12 is remote, the school systems states this does not mean the school buildings are unsafe for Pre-K through 2 grade students to be present. This minimizes the number of students in the building.  This also allows the youngest learners to have an opportunity to receive the academic support they so critically need at such a young age. Since the state has approved the school systems plan, Pre-K through 2nd grade students must attend in person or absences will be accumulated.

3-8 STUDENTS

All 3-8 grade students will begin remote learning tomorrow (Wednesday, January 6, 2021 through Friday, January 8, 2021.

9-12 STUDENTS

Because of the nature of scheduling and classes looking different at the high school level with the start of a new semester, students in grades 9-12 will report to school in person, alternating days on Wednesday January 6, 2021 and Thursday January 7, 2021, with all students 9-12 being remote Friday, January 8, 2021.

High school students with last names A through K will attend in person Wednesday, January 6, 2021 and have remote learning Thursday and Friday, January 7 and 8, 2021

High school students with last names L through Z will remote learn Wednesday and Friday, January 6 and 8, 2021 and attending in person Thursday, January 7, 2021

Bus transportation will run on a regular schedule for students attending in person classes.

Phoenix Campus Families: you will be receiving a letter today (Tuesday, January 5, 2021) with more information.

Meal Distribution Plan: More detailed information regarding meals will be provided to remote learners.

If the active cases of the coronavirus remain above 607 based on Friday’s (Jan. 8th) report from the TN Department of Health, ALL students in grades 3-12 will continue remote learning the following week. Pre-K through 2nd grade will continue in person.
